Philosophy
Our Committment
As a teaching team, we focus on nurturing the whole child, valuing social-emotional development, academic learning, creativity, and a strong sense of self for children from toddlerhood through age five. At the same time, we seek to broaden families’ understanding of what early childhood education can be by creating a community where children are respected as capable learners and active participants in their own growth.
Founded in 2015, Voyages was created in response to a growing need for high-quality early education that honors children as competent, curious, and deeply connected to the world around them. We believe children arrive with their own ideas, experiences, family histories, and cultural identities that shape how they make meaning. Our role is not to over structure every step of their learning, but to listen carefully, provide rich opportunities for exploration, and support the questions and interests that emerge.
Reggio Inspired and Social Constructivist School
Voyages Preschool is a Reggio-inspired, and social constructivist school, dedicated to strengthening families and deepening community bonds through a love of learning.
Our work is informed by current research in child development and neuroscience, while remaining grounded in the everyday experiences of childhood. We believe meaningful learning happens when children are engaged, challenged, and emotionally connected to what they are doing. Wonder, curiosity, and relationships form the foundation of our curriculum and guide the experiences we create within our school community.
Just as importantly, we believe childhood itself is something to be cherished. In a world that often rushes children toward the next milestone, we are committed to preserving the magic of this fleeting and extraordinary time of life. Childhood should be filled with imagination, discovery, play, connection, and joy as children learn how to learn and be in a group. We believe there is great value in lingering over a fascinating question, finding treasures in the garden, building elaborate worlds from simple materials. These moments are not separate from learning—they are the heart of it.
Central to our philosophy is the belief that children grow through challenge. We are committed to providing supported environments that are physically and emotionally safe while also allowing children to encounter appropriate levels of risk. Learning to climb higher, solve a difficult problem, navigate a disagreement, or try something unfamiliar are all important parts of development. These experiences help children build confidence, resilience, judgment, and independence.
Rather than removing every obstacle or eliminating uncertainty, we work alongside children as they learn to assess situations, make decisions, and trust their own abilities. Teachers thoughtfully prepare environments, remain present and attentive, and help children develop the skills needed to take responsibility for themselves and others. We believe that true safety is not created by preventing all risk, but by helping children develop the competence and confidence to engage with the world thoughtfully and successfully.
Family Connection
We also believe that learning is strongest when families are active participants in the process. Parents are welcomed as partners through daily documentation that makes children’s thinking and growth visible. By sharing the stories of children’s learning experiences, we invite families into the day and create meaningful connections between home and school. Regular gatherings, celebrations, conversations, and community events further strengthen these relationships, fostering a sense of belonging that extends beyond the child to embrace the entire family. In this way, Voyages becomes not simply a school, but a learning community where children, parents, and educators learn alongside one another.
